Goal

Collect favors by surviving rounds and finding the Princess.

Your turn

Play one of your two cards; its effect may reveal, protect or eliminate a rival.

Scoring & end

The last survivor or highest card wins a round. Reach the favor target to win.

A secret card, a public play

Love Letter uses sixteen cards: five Guards, two each of Priest, Baron, Handmaid and Prince, and one each of King, Countess and Princess. Each player holds one secret card. On your turn, draw one, play one face up, and carry the other forward. Apply the played card’s effect.

Card effects

1 · Guard (×5). Guess another player’s card, other than Guard. A correct guess eliminates them.

2 · Priest (×2). Privately see another player’s hand.

3 · Baron (×2). Privately compare hands. The lower card is eliminated.

4 · Handmaid (×2). Other players cannot target you until your next turn.

5 · Prince (×2). Choose anyone, including yourself, to discard their hand and draw again.

6 · King (×1). Trade your remaining card with another player.

7 · Countess (×1). You must play her when your other card is King or Prince.

8 · Princess (×1). If you discard her for any reason, you are out of the round.

Protected players cannot be chosen by other players. If no eligible target exists, a Guard, Priest, Baron or King has no effect; Prince must target yourself.

Winning rounds

A round ends when the deck runs out after a turn, or only one player remains. If several remain, the highest card in hand wins; ties go to the highest total value of discarded cards. A round winner earns one favor token and starts the next round. First to seven tokens with two players, five with three, or four with four wins the match.

One card is set aside face down. With two players, three more are set aside face up. A Prince played after the deck empties draws the face-down reserve.

Online table

Only you can see your hand and Priest peek. Played and eliminated cards are public. A missed turn is resolved by a bot so the table can continue.
